it's all over

a 2-1 loss to west brom albion means that arsenal are finished for the title race this year. it's over. wenger, of course, won't concede to the public, but he'd be an idiot not to concede in the private confines of his head.

it's easy to blame injuries, and we've got a pack of them, but what's the point? even with the injuries we've got a good team, albeit a young one. we should have won today and we didn't. simplas that. and now we need to focus on cup play, and cup play only.

fuck the league until next year. let's pull a liverpool and win the champs league.

france is in!

if the swiss dreww against ireland, les bleus had to win 4 - nil over cyprus, and following the example of zisou they did just that. wiltord, dharasoo and guily all scored in the first game that france really looked like france. with henry and trezeguet out there were those who thought they'd be unable to score, but how can people forget the presence of cisse, wiltord and dharasoo. when we've got those three we don't need anyone else. in fact, maybe we don't need henry and trezeguet at all. sometimes it's not the best players that make a team work, but the best combination, and after yesterday i think france has found it.

so after all the talk of france failing to qualify, they wind up winning their group. and i think their group has proven to be the toughest of all. with both israel and republic of ireland being eliminated -- only just barely -- no qualifying teams had it rougher than switzerland (who still have a second place playoff, which i am sure they'll win) and france. what's englad's excuse? oh yeah, they suck!

the other qualifier that made me smile was sweden's victory over iceland, which put them in second place behind croatia in group 8. it was enough to put the swedes in the same boat as poland: second place in their group, but qualifying directly on the strength of their points. for my money, sweden is the surprise team to watch come world cup time. they are getting better all the time, have the scary talented ibrihimovich, backed up by the passing and skill of ljungberg and the experience of larssen, and they've got a strong defense. of all the european teams i think they will be the most quietly dangerous.

one on one, one more time

and then back to our regularly scheduled footie without the chicks.

Salary Cap

LONDON (AP) - FIFA president Sepp Blatter has blasted wealthy club owners for pouring ''pornographic amounts of money'' into soccer, saying their spending is putting the game in danger. FIFA

It won't happen. The guys that have bought Man United and Chelski have done so for a reason. They enjoy the hunt and more importantly the kill. They are programmed to do whatever it takes to kill their competitors. Glazer excelled in a no salary cap NFL and I am sure Abramovich has gotten to where he is today by coddling his foes.

after the game

she looks so relaxed doesn't she? as though she sat on the bench for a full 90 mins.
i'm not stopping until the ball drops for the next arsenal game. if you've got any soccer babes you'd like to see on the beautiful game send them my way and up they will go.

just filling the void...

...until saturday.

and, in related news, since i am obsessed with the footie chicks this week, is the story of virginia "sparky" jimenez. she just made her professional debut in her village team, igualeja -- a men's side. a first ever. pretty damn cool.

and just to clarify, the picture of the girl with the large breasts and the ball between her legs is not sparky.

i can't resist

footie chicks are so damn hot. and there're plenty more footie chicks where this came from. what a way to get through the doldrums of world cup qualifying.

by the way, did i mention that ashley cole broke his foot? arsenal are right and truly fucked.
