Canadian Television Sucks

So in anticipation of the final day of Premiership action for this season I was just checking the TV listings. I would argue that with the championship and the relegation spots already determined, the most important matches of the day are the fight for 4th (West Ham v. Tottenham; Arsenal v. Wigan). Care to guess what games are being televised? That's right, neither of those is being shown (at least not at a reasonable time).

8:00: Liverpool-Portsmouth (Sportsnet - Live)
8:00: Man U-Charlton (Score - Live)
10:00: Chelsea-Newcastle (FSW - Tape)
21:00: Arsenal-Wigan (Sportsnet Pacific - Tape)
24:00: Arsenal-Wigan (Sportsnet West - Tape)

What possible reason could Sportsnet have for showing Liverpool live and tape delaying Arsenal under late evening? As Gio said earlier: who the hell is in charge of programming?

the only reason i can see is that sportscasters in canada truly know nothing about football. they recognize that liverpool and man utd are the most popular teams in the country and chelsea are the champs -- so those must be the important games to fans.

what truly baffles me is that, for sheer numbers, celtic has the greatest fan base in canada. and why no one shows spl action is beyond me.

and my question for you, canadian gooner, is: are you going to wait until 10 pm to find out what happened?

No way. I can't hold off that long. I'll be checking the scores in the morning. What about you?

If Man U loses (not likely) and Liverpool win (in their dreams) then Liv get 2nd and an automatic Champions League spot. Who cares who gets 4th?

Realistically there is very little difference between second and third. How often has an English side lost in the qualifying stage of the Champions League? On the other hand the amount of revenue gained by playing in the Champions League versus the UEFA Cup makes fourth place worth fighting for. That and the small matter of a rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal that dates back nearly 100 years.

Actually Mr. Banana, its more about football fans knowing nothing about television. Rogers is only offered certain games. It is not a la carte.
