anxiety is setting in
four more sleeps until the big game. the biggest arsenal game since i've been a fan. the biggest arsenal game ever, really. and i am beginning to stress out.
i've had a couple of obsessions in my life, but none so strong as film until football took over. but with film, and in particular harrison ford films, i never felt fear the week before the film opened (at least not until after ford made hollywood homicide). but sport is a different beast. it is a once in a lifetime chance. it is unscripted. it allows fans to be part of something, to root their team on, to embrace the chaotic nature of winners and losers. it is a drug. and i am addicted.
and i need arsenal to win. i need them to win because i am in need of something good. i need them to win to keep henry. i need them to win to complete the giant fuck you to tottenham. i need them to win for bragging rights. i need them to win for my milos. i need them to win so that they will officially become as big as man utd and liverpool. i need them to win because it would bring me joy.
and i know they won't. they are arsenal. they get us close and leave us hanging. but it would be so brilliant if they did win. undoubtedly there will be more to come.

i just want them to beat barcelona...and they quite possibly could. even the best teams have bad days. let's hope this is a bad day for barca
I guess the big difference between film and sport is that you enter a theatre knowing that the director will try to ensure the majority of viewers leave happy (with a few exceptions) and thus there is a degree of faith that everything will work itself out. In sport there is noone guiding the outcome to ensure the happiness of the viewers and thus the faith has to be based on something else. In a case like this all I can do as an Arsenal supporter is to look back on games such as that incredible night at Anfield in 89 or snatching victory from the near collapse in the 79 FA Cup final. That and the knowledge that in a single game of football anything can happen (looking back to last years final shows that).
And above all I have faith that if there is a supreme being out there, they must absolutely hate Tottenham and thus won't let Arsenal lose now.
the great thing about this is it's one game, and in one game anything can happen.
you shouldn't say they'll lose because it's futbol. liverpool came back to beat milan. greece beat portugal. arsenal can beat barcelona.
should be a great game.
