the best team lost

liverpool earned their victory over chelsea with spirited, wholehearted play. milan did nothing of the sort in their victory over psv eindhoven.

in fact, psv played better than them in both legs, despite going down 2 - nil at the san siro. and today's game at teh phillip's stadium in eindhoven was a masterful performance, wherein psv crushed the italian giants with a 3-1 victory. sadly, it wasn't enough to go through. milan squeaked by on away goals.

agony of defeat Posted by Hello

the best player for psv, in both legs, was ji-sung park, the south korean international who guus hiddink brought back with him from asia after the 2002 world cup. park dominated the midfield, caused no end of trouble for the usually solid japp stam and scored a scorcher of a goal to psv up 1 - nil in today's second leg. yp lee, park's countryman, and psv's ultra-talented left back, provided a beautiful cross that cocu slammed into the back of the net.

but milan, in the 90th minute, snuck in a header by ambrossini to get that crucial away goal. for the first time in the game no one was marking a milan player in the penalty area and that was all milan needed to finish off psv.

to their credit, however, psv did not give up. back came cocu with one of the goals of the tournament, volleying a long pass over his shoulder and into the upper right corner of the net -- beautiful, but not enough.

so it's going to be ac milan v. liverpool in instanbul. that should be a match to remember.
